WAN and Cloud Networking Track

Networking is the third leg of cloud computing resources and an increasingly critical part of the ability to deliver on the promises of agility and scale. Network connections both link local compute and storage capacity, as well as deliver user traffic. This track will explore the latest changes in cloud networking, delving in to network virtualization and software defined networking. The network has to be part of any orchestration process for a cloud infrastructure to be able to grow to any scale and SDN is a path with lots of promise. The last year has seen big steps forward in both open source and vendor-based network automation tools and the sessions will detail what's here today, what's on the horizon, and what it all means for you.

We'll also look at networking needs to get maximum performance in hybrid deployments and links to users. Hybrid application architectures are a great transition mechanism for many enterprise needs, but they put a huge stress on the networks that bind them together. WAN connection options and the performance and cost impacts of each will be covered, with an eye to getting information that will help in making decisions in these turbulent times.

Eric Hanselman is the Chief Analyst of 451 Research's Networks practice. He has an extensive hands-on understanding of a broad range of IT subject areas, having direct experience in the areas of networks, virtualization, security, and semiconductors. Eric helps 451 Research's clients understand how market and technology trends may impact them, and how they can best capitalize on them.

For more than 20 years, Eric has worked with segment leaders in a spectrum of technologies, most recently as CTO of Leostream Corporation, a virtualization management provider. Prior to that, Eric delivered networking security solutions for IBM and Internet Security Systems. At Wellfleet/Bay Networks, Sitara Networks and NEC, he was involved in the introduction of many new technologies ranging from high-performance image analysis to rollouts for IPv6.

Eric is a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a VMware Certified Professional (VCP), and he is a frequent speaker at leading industry events.

Prior to that, he was responsible for the architecture and technology of network services and their integration with switches and routers for datacenters. Pere also led Cisco's Service Enabled Network initiative, which contributed some of the early thoughts and ideas behind Software Defined Networks. He sponsored some of the early work around SDN, including the SIGCOMM 2008 OF prototype on Cisco's flagship Catalyst 6500 platform.
