SVP of DSP (Platform) Engineering, Warner Music Group
Dave McCrory is the Senior Vice President of Engineering for Warner Music Group, where he is building a next generation enterprise PaaS. Dave has coined the term "Data Gravity", which he recognized through extensive research over the past several years. He has presented at many conferences, including DeployCon, Gluecon, Interop Big Data, VMworld US/Europe, RubyConf, and RailsConf to name a few. Dave is also co-author of the book titled "Advanced Server Virtualization", and holds 9 granted Patents. He also co-founded 2 startups, Surgient Inc. and Hyper9, where he was Chief Scientist/CTO.
DeployCon 9:00 AM – 9:15 AM: Welcome Note by Jocelyn DeGance Graham, Rishidot Research and James Urquhart, Enstratius, takes over as MC
9:15 AM – 10:00 AM: Keynote - Data Gravity and Complex Systems (Using this to your advantage in the Cloud and the Datacenter) by Dave McCrory, Warner Music Group
Data Gravity and Complex Systems play a role in Cloud services and capabilities both inside Enterprise Datacenters and outside with Cloud providers. Data Gravity naturally draws applications and services closer to Data sources. Complex Systems create opportunities for dramatic changes and improvements in how we manage the interactions of Data, Applications, and Services. Learning to discover and leverage these behaviors and patterns can allow you to avoid lock-in, increased management costs, and derive other benefits.
10:00 AM – 10:45 AM: Keynote - Intel IT PaaS Journey – Idea to Production in less than a day by Das Kamhout, Intel
What if enterprise developers could have an idea for an app, code it and deploy it into production in less than a day? Intel IT is addressing that challenge by establishing PaaS for the developers of custom applications. The promise of PaaS was determined strategically important in 2010 to extend the value of Intel IT’s award winning IaaS cloud for the web developer community at Intel. Das Kamhout, will share how the Intel IT Cloud leadership team made the case for this investment that was deemed unclear, and explain the PaaS journey, describing the approach and success/failures. This session will emphasize how an Enterprise IT shop needs to adapt faster towards consuming and running a rich set of cloud services.

1:30 PM – 2:15 PM: Keynote - Cover your PaaS by David Mortman, enStratius
PaaS makes developers (and possibly operations) lives much easier. But what are the security implications of migrating to PaaS? Does PaaS lead to more secure code? What about a more secure deployment? In principal yes, but what are the realities? How many unicorns do you get and just what’s in that pot at the end of the rainbow and what can you do with what you find?

Wednesday Keynotes Hear from innovative industry thought leaders:

Lean IT
We're seeing a horde of attempts to improve technology and how it's built, deployed, and operated. But these initiatives, while well-intentioned, miss the point: Lean Startup, Agile Development, Devops, Continuous Deployment, and Cloud Computing, are inextricably linked. Organizations can't just have some of them and expect to reap the benefits of
their entirety, and much of the disappointment and disillusionment companies experience comes from not having a holistic perspective.
In this session CloudOps Research founder and Cloud Connect content chair Alistair Croll will look at what it means to deliver end-to-end "Lean IT", and how only then can a company move from being and organization to being an organism
The Origin of Data Gravity
As data beings to collect, especially in larger Clouds and datastores, it causes exponential data growth, attracting applications and services closer to the data. While this cause and effect relationship appears to be direct, there is an underlying reason that extends past this seemingly simple relationship to a much deeper and complex one. What causes the Data Gravity effect? Is it simply more Data or is it something else?
In this session Independent Data Physics Researcher and SVP of Engineering for Warner Music Group, Dave McCrory will talk about his latest research into the causes and origins of Data Gravity. He will also discuss how the effects of Data Gravity can be both leveraged and altered depending on the desired outcome.
Cloud Formations: A Framework for Cloud Decision Making
The cloud provides an opportunity for powerful business mash-ups where UC can be leveraged and combined with other solutions tailored to meet unique business requirements. This keynote reviews why UC is ideal for the cloud and how to derive maximum value while transforming existing UC into competitive advantage.
