This means it's less fun, but it's also more grounded in the day-to-day realities of implementing change instead of envisioning utopia. Many presentations focus on real-world use cases and concrete action steps, with a strong focus on hybrid cloud computing.

Two Views of the Cloud: End Users and Enterprise IT
By Paul Kapustka | ITworld
It's easy to forget that sometimes even in a highly specialized audience -- like the one here following enterprise mobility -- there are divisions in opinion and in how a common technology, like cloud computing, is viewed. At last week's Cloud Connect event in Santa Clara, I heard several speakers call this divide out in compelling fashion, and it made me wonder if culture is part of the reason cloud computing still faces challenges in corporate deployments.

I thought a lot about simplicity at Cloud Connect this past week after a lunchtime chat with Pradeep Prabhu, CEO and Founder at CloudMunch. I had been skeptical of the CloudMunch service. It took me some time to understand how the company has automated the manual steps that developers have to take to get their apps ready to launch.

HP Cloud Evangelist: We're All About OpenStack
By Charles Babcock | InformationWeek
Margaret Dawson, a new VP of product marketing and cloud evangelism, is the new face of Hewlett-Packard. She's given to damn the torpedoes, straight-ahead answers, despite being part of an ancient and some would say, stumbling, Silicon Valley company. She gives off an air of certainty where one might expect to find temporizing or irresolution. She even ended a keynote address at Cloud Connect 2013 in Santa Clara, Calif., Thursday with the statement that she recently "joined HP to win," not, she might have added, to become another executive fumbling confused messages.

Newness and Challenges of Cloud Debated on Day Two of Cloud Connect
By Seth Robinson | CompTIA Blog
On Wednesday at the Cloud Connect conference, I heard two statements presented that I didn't quite agree with. The first was that "cloud is nothing new." I've heard this statement before, and I think people who make it are mostly trying to make the point that client/server architectures have existed before. That much is true, but there is clearly something new about cloud computing, and I believe that something is the amount of disintermediation that has taken place.
