Dan Gahafer is the Forge.mil Program Director within the DISA office of the CTO. Forge.mil is free enterprise service offering available on both unclassified and classified networks to everyone in the Department of Defense, targeting IT capability providers. Prior to his work at DISA, Dan worked in IT for 22 years in the private sector primarily in software engineering, network engineering, and information security. In 2002, Dan began a government career at DISA. Initially the DoD DMZ program manager, he subsequently performed as the Computing Services Directorate’s (CSD) Customer Management Executive to a diverse group of CSD customers including the combatant commands, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and many DoD agencies, and also managing the implementation of DISA’s Network Centric Enterprise Services (NCES). Following that he consolidated all CSD’s geographically diverse datacenter network communications functions in a single division including all engineering, provisioning, operations, accreditation, and sustainment functions. He then served as CSD’s Chief of Operations, responsible for all system and network operations at DISA’s 13 worldwide datacenters. Over 2500 personnel operate networks, systems, and applications in DISA datacenters in the continental United States, and in the Pacific, European, and Southwest Asian Theaters, supporting almost all DoD services, agencies, and combatant commands, as well as other federal agencies and coalition partners.
