Director, Corporate Strategy, Microsoft
Rolf Harms is Director, Corporate Strategy at Microsoft. His main focus has been on the industry transition to the cloud and on shaping Microsoft’s role in it. He led the team that developed the Go-To-Market plans for Windows Azure before its announcement in 2008. He also developed a number of internal cloud strategy memos for the company’s Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Directors. More recently, Rolf authored a whitepaper that was published by Microsoft, titled “The Economics of the Cloud”. Rolf previously worked at SAP and management consulting firm Mitchell Madison Group and holds an MBA from UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
In this session, the co-author of the recent Microsoft whitepaper “The Economics of the Cloud,” reviews his in-depth analysis leading to the conclusion that public clouds offer dramatic cost savings over internal data centers, due to economies of scale, statistical multiplexing effects, and multi-tenancy.
