Innovation through Cloud in Enterprise (ICE) Awards


Cloud Connect and Everest Group are pleased to launch the Innovation through Cloud in Enterprise (ICE) Awards. The ICE Awards recognize enterprises that have achieved innovation through the adoption of cloud solutions. Identifying and celebrating enterprises that have navigated the complex but transformative possibilities that the cloud offers is the objective of the ICE Awards.

The ICE Awards Judges Panel will select winners across a range of industry sectors, including consumer goods & retail, financial services, healthcare, media & entertainment, and others. Additionally, a crowdsourcing process conducted via social media will select a winner for the “Viewers’ Choice” award.

Application Process


  • If you meet the criteria, complete the online application
  • There is no fee to apply
  • The deadline for submission is 9 p.m. EST, August 9, 2013
  • Upon the closing of entries, all entries will be reviewed, finalists selected and interviewed regarding their stories of innovation
    • Finalists will also be required to develop a short 60-second video (support provided), highlighting their stories of innovation for the Viewer’s Choice Award.

Peter Bendor-Samuel

Peter founded Everest Group in 1991 with the vision to assist the then nascent outsourcing and global services industry to evolve more powerful and effective mechanisms to create and capture value. Peter is the author of the industry best-selling book, “Turning Lead Into Gold: the Demystification of Outsourcing.” He is a regularly featured thought leader in international business media including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Financial Times, and is a frequent keynote speaker at various industry events.

Alistair Croll

Alistair is the principal analyst at Bitcurrent, a research firm focused on emerging technologies; a founding partner of startup accelerator Year One Labs; an executive at CloudOps; and an advisor to various technology venture firms. Prior to Bitcurrent, Alistair co-founded startup accelerator Rednod; web performance management firm Coradiant, and Networkshop, a research firm. He has also worked as a product manager for 3Com Corporation, Primary Access, and Eicon Technology.

Alistair coordinates content for a variety of prominent technology events such as Cloud Connect, Interop, and Strata. He is also the creator of the Bitnorth conference and helped found the International Startup Festival in Montreal, Canada, and has written several books on technology, including Web Operations (2010, O’Reilly), Complete Web Monitoring (2009, O’Reilly) and Managing Bandwidth: Deploying QOS in Enterprise Networks (1999, Prentice-Hall).

A sought-after speaker with 15 years’ on-stage experience, he regularly addresses business audiences and IT executives on a wide range of topics, including cloud computing, product management, data-driven marketing, Big Data, startup acceleration, web analytics, and more. He blogs at Solve For Interesting.

Neal Sample

Neal is CIO – Enterprise Growth, for American Express. In this capacity, he manages end-to-end platform technology, infrastructure and operations for the Serve Platform as well as the delivery and implementation of the full suite of pre-paid and Fee Based Services products.

Prior to American Express, Neal served as the CTO of X.commerce, eBay’s open development and commerce platform. Prior to X.commerce, he was Vice President of Architecture and Platform Products at eBay, where he was responsible for leading the company’s platform architecture, product strategy and managing the design and delivery of the developers program. Prior to eBay, Neal was a senior executive at Yahoo! where he led the Open, Social, and Participation platforms. In addition to platform operation and development, his team was responsible for partnerships with Zynga, Facebook and Twitter.

Neal has extensive technology and engineering experience and has spent most of his career developing and building platforms and products for emerging technologies.

Neal attended Stanford University where he received his MS and PhD in Computer Science. He also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship with the CIA Office of Research and Development.

Eric Simonson

Eric has more than 10 years of sourcing strategy and global services industry analysis expertise. His overarching goal is to ensure enterprises, service providers, and investors have the combination of fact- and experience-based insight they require to make informed, actionable, impactful, and value-generating global services decisions.

Key research initiatives Eric has conceived, driven and helped create include: the industry’s first-ever detailed coverage of BPO in an offshore context, published in 2008 in partnership with NASSCOM; Everest Group’s Market Vista offering, which provides a unique, comprehensive look into the key forces and metrics defining the market; ongoing coverage of the global in-house center (GIC) market; and most recently, a joint survey with Shared Services & Outsourcing Network (SSON) that looks at industry-specific strategies in shared services and outsourcing.

Eric ensures the firm’s portfolio of research capabilities comprehensively addresses the entire global services space, across geographies, services, and sourcing models in order to help clients and other industry participants gain value from the next generation of global services.

Eric is regularly quoted in international business and trade media and is a frequent speaker at various industry events, including NASSCOM, SSON and others. He currently serves on the Global Steering Committee North America for SSON.

Steve Wylie

Conference industry veteran Steve Wylie has been involved with some of the world’s leading business technology conferences for the past 15 years. As the General Manager for UBM Tech’s Cloud Connect brand, Steve is the driving force behind the defining cloud event for IT professionals, developers, and leading cloud providers. Steve has been a regular columnist on InformationWeek.com and serves on the Social Networking advisory board at HR.com. Steve formerly co-chaired the annual Interop conferences in Las Vegas and New York. Criteria


Before you complete the application, please be sure you meet the following criteria.

Your organization must be a user of cloud solutions.

  • Note: If you are a service provider who would like more information to share with your client on how to apply, please contact us.
  • Your organization must be an enterprise with at least 2,500 employees.
  • Your organization must have operations in North America or Europe that are receiving the cloud services.

Your enterprise’s implementation of a cloud solution should have resulted in one or more of the following:

  • Significant positive effects on one or more segments of your stakeholders (customers, employees, partners/channels, and/or society in general), e.g., improved customer satisfaction, improved collaboration between employees and partners, reduced resource consumption footprint etc.
  • Striking business impact in terms of revenue, costs, pricing, investments, retention, and/or reduced time to market
  • Notable technology transformation that led to process simplification, creation of new feature/functionality, flexibility, uniqueness/cleverness, business agility, etc.
  • Achievement of organizational transformation, e.g., the cloud solution improved your organizational model, bettered your change management practices, empowered a previously impassive organization, etc.

If selected as a finalist, your organization:

  • Must be willing to be interviewed to tell your story of innovation. The Judges Panel will consider both the formal application plus insights from the interviews in their decisions.
  • Must be willing to create a short 60-second video (support provided), detailing your story of innovation and share it via social media for entry into the Viewers’ Choice category. Your video may also be used for promotional videos and presentations at Cloud Connect Chicago.
