Cloud Connect Keynotes Emphasize Evolution

It's been an information-packed morning here at Cloud Connect in Chicago. The opening keynote addresses are about the fundamental need for enterprise IT to embrace cloud technologies -- or else.Alistair Croll, vice president of CloudOps Research, opened with an entertaining slide presentation that likened business and IT to an old married couple. Once the kids have flown the nest, he said, there's no point in holding onto a big, cluttered house. "Move to a condo!" he urged. "Get rid of all the crap!"

Avoiding Cloud Missteps: Hardware Vulnerabilities

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm at the Cloud Connect conference this week in Chicago. Today is devoted to in-depth workshops; the expo floor and keynote presentations open tomorrow and run through Wednesday.This morning, I attended Albert Caballero's talk on hardware vulnerabilities that can compromise public and private cloud infrastructures. Caballero is CTO for Trapezoid Digital Security Services, which was formed by several IT security professionals after Verizon acquired Terremark. His bio explains that he helped develop and manage the Terremark Security Operations Center, where he deployed and integrated security technologies for its cloud and hosting platforms.
